The Kindle Standard — Natural Fibres First
When fabric touches your child's skin, we choose natural fibres: cotton, linen, muslin, bamboo, modal, wool, silk, down. No polyester next to baby skin. No acrylic in everyday wear. This is a deliberate restriction we apply to every piece we add to the catalogue — and it quietly removes a lot we would otherwise sell.
How We Vet Every Piece
Before a garment earns a place in the Kindle catalogue, we check three things:
- Fibre composition — natural fibres on every garment touching the skin. The only exception we allow is a small percentage of elastane in socks and tights, because there is no natural alternative that keeps them up.
- Skin-first selection — when layering matters, the inner layer must always be natural. Outer shells on heavy outerwear (down jackets, waxed coats) may use weather-protective materials, but the layer touching the skin never does.
- Timeless design — pieces children actually want to wear, made to be lived in and handed down.
The Ceremony Exception — Stated Openly
Some traditions are written in fabric. Wedding dresses, christening gowns, communion suits and flower girl dresses have been made from tulle, silk satin, and ceremonial blends for generations — and parents who shop for these pieces expect that tradition.
We sell these specialised ceremony pieces and we tell you so honestly on every product page. They sit alongside our natural-fibre everyday collection without pretending to be something they are not.
What We Don't Sell
To keep the standard honest, we leave some categories to other brands:
- No UPF / sun-protection synthetic jackets — UV-blocking technical fabric requires polyester. We recommend long-sleeve cotton or linen for sun protection instead.
- No quick-dry sport sets — quick-dry is a polyester property. Children don't need it; cotton does the job.
- No nylon windbreakers — for wind, we offer cotton waxed jackets and wool coats instead.
- No polyester fleece — for warmth, wool puffer, down or cotton sherpa do better.
Why This Matters
Children's skin is thinner, more permeable, and more reactive than ours. The fabric they sleep in, play in, and grow in is not a detail — it's a daily decision. We make it carefully so you don't have to think about it.
